BENEFITING: CHAMPAIGN COUNTY HEALTH CARE CONSUMERS
Even with new health insurance coverage made available through the Affordable Care Act, too many of our low-income and no-income clients are unable to afford the prescriptions they need. Co-pays for prescriptions may be too high; the drugs prescribed may not be covered under a particular insurance plan; or, there is a limit to the number of prescriptions that are covered. Affordable access to prescriptions all too often becomes a barrier to patients’ wellness.
Champaign County Health Care Consumers helps hundreds of clients each month gain access to affordable health care, and now we have created a special Rx Fund dedicated to providing short-term emergency financial help with the cost of medications, while we work with the client to find long-term solutions.
We understand that having access to a doctor is not enough if patients cannot afford their treatment. The Rx Fund provides up to $25 of financial assistance for prescription medications, over-the-counter medication, durable medical equipment, and copayments.
We hope that no one has to choose which medicines to buy and which to leave for next month. That’s where you come in. By comparing prices and using coupons, our average level of assistance is $11 per client, and for that same reason, small donations go a long way--
- $2 will buy a 60 day supply of Metformin to manage diabetes
- $4 will buy one bottle of Amoxicillin to fight bacterial infections like toothaches, earaches, and sinus infections.
- $10 will buy a 90 day supply of Benazepril to control high blood pressure
Thankfully some local pharmacies have provided affordable prices, but even when co-pays are as little as $2 per prescription, that may still be too high for clients who have no income at all. We help clients find long-term solutions to their health care needs, which include helping clients apply for Medicaid, the Marketplace or prescription drug discount programs. We provide these services at no cost to the client, which is why we rely on donations.
Join the fight to keep the residents of Champaign County healthy by donating today!
