BENEFITING: BEACON TREE FOUNDATION
Carolyn, the 15-year-old daughter of a Richmond Virginia family, went to her mother and told her that she was thinking of ways to kill herself and she didn't know why. She asked her mom for help. It frightened Carolyn and their family since she had had a previous suicide attempt.
Insurance does not cover long term treatment. But as a parent, what would you do?
Carolyn has been diagnosed with depression and the family has exhausted all local resources and they've already sent her to a treatment center out west using a home equity loan in order to save her life. She has had a previous hospitalization for a suicide attempt.
What they have will not last as long as it needs to and they are doing all they can to keep her there as she is responding to treatment. This is not an overnight fix.
Beacon Tree is helping with the funds we have but the need exceeds what we have to give.
If 500 people gave $25 each, we'd have $12,500 to give which would help. 500 people giving $50 each would meet our goal. Beacon Tree Foundation helps families pay for the mental health treatment a child needs to manage a mental illness and prevent suicide.
We make payment directly to the treatment facility. Our mission is access to care, education and advocacy as well as financial help.
