Safe drinking water is one major problem in the region. The Koninko -Mandou Development Foundation is committed to building safe drinking water-wells one at a time.

Basic every day health care is somehow a luxury in the Koninko-Mandou region. Koninko-Mandou Foundation is committed to making sure that simple medical evaluations, such as Primary Health and Wellness, are received through the provision of clinical dental care; and that tuberculosis, cancer, and other chest related illness are screened for and prevented through awareness-building. The Foundation also supports blood pressure and cardiovascular risk screening for families.

Infrastructural maintenance is a central concern for the region. Beside helping to empower local schools in the region, the Foundation funded the renovation of the region’s oldest community and worship center in early 2009.

The Koninko-Mandou people are strong farmers. Here are Farmers transporting their products to the market near the capital, Conakry, for marketing. The region comprises farmers and miners. Farming materials are scarced because the people can not afford them due the high cost. The Foundation is committed to helping small farmers with materials
Koninko-Mandou Foundation is a regional community based nonprofit, non-religious and non-governmental institution that works to mobilize and assist the Koninko-Mandou people and region in rural Guinea, West Africa. The Foundation was founded in early 2009 by Mr. Laye Soko Traore, President and CEO of KC Auto Repair and Services, a US based automotive service, used cars and auto parts sales company based in Akron, Ohio; and his wife, Ms. Jenibou Traore, a successful small businesswoman based in the United States.

Although Mr. Laye Soko Traore and his wife, Zeinabou Camera are United States citizens, they are direct descendants of the Koninko – Mandou region of Guinea. As African – Americans, Laye and Jenibou elected to contribute and provide basic opportunities for the people in their native land by identifying with their causes through social and economic development activities.

After visiting the region and supporting several development efforts there to help the children, women and elderly as well as rural farmers gain access to opportunities that will make them economically independent, and self-supported, Laye and his wife, Zeinabou committed the initial capital / funds for the initiation of the Foundation with the view of sustaining the ongoing development activities in the region and for its people. Koninko – Mandou Development Foundation is an open and transparent institution for all citizens and inhabitants of the Koninko – Mandou region.

The Foundation is Koninko- Mandou community owned and operated, with power and authority vested in the entire community and people. Essential decisions are derived and acted upon through popular participation, and development projects and activities are implemented through cooperation and partnership between donors and the citizens of the region.

What makes Koninko – Mandou Development Foundation unique is that it is an institution owned and administered by the citizens and residents of the region, who are, clearly the prime beneficiaries of every social and economic development sponsored in the region.
