THE STORY:

On June 25, 1994 a miracle occurred when after four days of labour the maternity doctor successfully took a princess from her cozy abode into the world.” She’s quite the princess he remarked she would not have come out if we didn’t go for her”. Thus she was rightfully named Princess-Aalyiah Imosiakine Richards. She was the perfect baby and grew into an adventurous brilliant pre-school kid without any form of health issues. Princess-Aalyiah started experiencing bouts of large bumps and welts on her skin which became inflamed and very painful whenever she was bitten by insects, this continues even up to today especially if they are sandflies (Female Phlebotominae). Continuous visits to different medical doctors resulted in diagnoses of sensitive skin and allergies. Treatments normally include topical ointments and antibiotics. Despite its prolonged occurrence no differential diagnosis was ever offered except for the addition of insect repellants. Routine visits to a Medical Centre for back pain, brown urine and migraine led the doctor to do tests which revealed elevated levels of protein and blood in the urine. The doctor repeated the test three times within a six month period. She noticed that the levels showed marked elevation each time. She then referred her to the Renal Unit at the University Hospital of the West Indies Jamaica for further evaluation. She attended Renal Clinic and did a myriad of tests over a two years period while being on special medications prescribed by various Urologists at the hospital. Further monthly testing was completed which showed no improvement from the treatments given. A biopsy was requested and completed in January 2015. The results revealed a 25% damage resulting in scaring of the glomeruli of both kidneys. Further referral was made at the hospital. Having ordered new tests and done a complete review of the case he has made an immediate referral to Professor Moro Salifu at Suny Downstate Medical Centre in New York to ascertain a definitive diagnosis. This is because of the exhaustion of all options tried here in Jamaica. Consultation with Professor Salifu has been set for November 30, 2015 at 1pm. Princess-Aalyiah’s mother is a single mother of three children. She is a hardworking Teacher; however she is unable to afford the cost of accessing the medical assistance that is required for Princess-Aalyiah health. Furthermore, since the year of 2000 the family has being experiencing medical and financial setback as Princess-Aalyiah brother was hospitalized suffering from complicated sinusitis. He subsequently had multiple surgeries including bilateral ethmoidectomy twice by age two. This made it necessary for the family of five to relocate as the environment was tested and said to be more suitable for him. In additional to the medical expenses already expended on Princess-Aalyiah. As such the family is seeking your support.
