BENEFITING: THE REBECCA FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Feb 21, 2016
A Yale University study states about 30% of low-income mothers reported trouble paying for diapers and one in 12 admit to stretching their diaper supply by leaving their child in a wet diaper or partially cleaning the disposable diaper and reusing it. Clean, renewable cloth diapers mean healthy children, reduced stress on parents and additional income for basic necessities including food.
The Rebecca Foundation is a national program and advocacy organization taking action to end diaper need in the United States. Our mission is to bring clean, reusable cloth diapers to economically disadvantaged families, Military families overseas, foster families, and special needs families, ensuring cloth for all.
We provide clean reusable cloth diapers to those families who cannot afford the continued cost of disposable diapers or the initial start up cost associated with switching full time to cloth diapers. We ease the expense by loaning diapers for a period of 1 year allowing families to save a significant amount of personal funds monthly. When families have been able to purchase their own supply of cloth diapers they are able to return their loan so another family may benefit.
My son is almost out of diapers and I was lucky to have a family member who gifted me a lot of the cloth diapers I used. That gift was a huge relief when I was in the process of becoming a parent.
I decided I wanted to help families in my community in a similar way. I found The Rebecca Foundation's Cloth Diaper Closet online while looking for ways to give back. I thought it was such a good program that I joined as the Austin, TX Chapter President.
Please help support me in this half marathon by donating to help me meet my fundraising goal! A donation of just $7 will help send a diaper package out to a family in need. No amount is to small. Thank you all for your support!
