BENEFITING: BREAST INTENTIONS
Breast Intentions is a Washington State Non-Profit Corporation with 501(c)(3) status which provides underprivileged women with professionally fitted bras. The idea came to our founder, Christine Weaver, when she took a low-income woman shopping for an event dress. While zipping her in and out dresses, Christine noticed that her undergarment was in sad shape. It had been three years since she had a new one and had never been professionally fitted for a bra. As it turned out, she was wearing a bra that was the wrong size by two in both directions (band and cup). After being fitted for a bra, she was able to lift her arms without the “girls” falling out. She had never been able to do that before and it brought her to tears. With a properly fitted bra, women see themselves in a different light – more self-assured and empowered. At Breast Intentions, we provide that foundation of support through donations of new or nearly new bras and cash donations. We have north-side and south-side drop offs for donations and gladly accept monetary gifts to buy what we do not have to hold the events. At least four times per year, we hold “Fitting Parties” for underprivileged women throughout Eastern Washington. These are true night-out events with childcare, food, beverage and music, plus professional fitters. Each woman leaves with at least one bra and, if we don’t have what she needs, we will get it for her. It’s a small but important way to help women feel good and confident about themselves.
