THE STORY:

Why I’m running for Project Purple

Why I’m running for Project Purple – The families who receive financial aid from Project Purple are so grateful, so thankful, thanking us in tears, I’m humbled by their response, wishing there was more we could do. The patients and their families, the gratitude and their positive hopeful outlook is incredibly courageous and inspiring. Running is how I personally dealt with losing my younger brother and my father. The benefit was crystalized, while running Grand Canyon North Rim to South Rim, after losing my brother and while my father was fighting cancer, it was an incredibly healthy way to heal from the grief of losing a loved one, early in the 26 mile run, anger gets flushed out, tears flow, finally at about the 23rd mile coming up the South Rim, the sun rose breaking through the canyon at an incredible angle, and I had an awesome feeling that everything was going to be ok. Running for Project Purple is a Perfect Storm of good, the money raised helps families facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, the fellowship of incredible people together taking a negative and transforming it to a positive, and the personal benefit of finding a healthy way to work through painful loss.    On the financial side, having been a Controller for a Biotech that was dedicated to early cancer detection, the reality of progress only materializing with often great expenditures. Brilliant scientists and highly advanced equipment are expensive, but the benefits of even adding months or years to someone’s life is well worth the expense; I saw that with my father wanting more time, and I’ve seen it with the patients that Project Purple helps.    This year pancreatic cancer surpassed breast cancer and became the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Despite this alarming statistic, only 3% of money donated to the National Cancer Institute goes toward pancreatic cancer research.   Please consider donating to this cause so that this often overlooked disease is no longer ignored.      ist{T(

Join us in our first ever OC Marathon! Experience the beauty of Orange County by running with Project Purple at the 2017 US Bank OC Marathon. Run the magnificent scenic course through the Southern California coastal communities of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana.

Project Purple is running in this race to raise money and awareness for pancreatic cancer. We use funds raised in all of our races to support our three main programs: research, patient aid, and scholarships.
