BENEFITING: PACIFIC UNION COLLEGE
EVENT DATE: Dec 26, 2016
Ahh Where should I start?!
I would like to thank God and every single person that has prayed for me and generously supported Brazil project financially.
As many of you know, I just came back from Amazon, Brazil after serving in a small village as a student missionary for 5 months. My friend Kelly and I learned and grew so much mentally and spiritually during our time in the Amazon. The experience that we had was led by God and we couldn't exchange it with anything else! I can tell you more stories about this great experience but today, I would like to focus on this current fundraising that God has impressed on my mind.
During the time I was there, I realized the importance and necessity of hygiene practices, education, long-term job opportunities, and, most of all, sharing the love of God that ultimately heals from within.
Many families suffer financially and some kids literally cry themselves to sleep in hunger. The majority of people were malnourished and children suffered from skin infections. What would be an effective solution? Giving them food packages may last them a week but a better option would be providing them with job opportunities that can give them a regular income. Several families have expressed their desire to continue their education to become teachers in their community to help improve their life situations.
All of these ideas and wishes are future projects that we are working on. By building bathrooms, delivering water filters, and giving the children sandals, we'll be able to prevent so many diseases. By sending the young adults to continue their education, we'll have more families with regular income. Just as Jesus touched people by healing them physically and spiritually, helping these people physically will cause their hearts to be even more open for spiritual bread.
I generally don't like asking for money, but this is about working together for the Great Commission that God has given us. Has God shown love to you? God tells us to share the blessings and love that we receive freely from Him. As God has praised the poor widow for offering the little but the best that she had, He will honor whatever you are able to give for Him. You're not just giving out money for the poor, you are leading one more soul closer to His kingdom.
"He defended the cause of the poor and needy,
and so all went well.
Is that not what it means to know me?
declares the Lord. " (Jeremiah 22:16)
