BENEFITING: Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon Foundation Inc
We Need Your Help! The Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon started Project Smile after seeing the need in a school right in our back yard. Childhood hunger is a major crisis in America. One in three children goes to bed hungry each night. Many are able to take advantage of free breakfast and lunch at their school, but what about the weekend? For the last four years, “Project Smile” has been providing a weekend backpack of food to children at Gibsonton Elementary School, one of the poorest in Hillsborough County, Florida. Food is plentiful in America. The challenge is the distribution. Many neighborhoods do not have access to fresh fruit, vegetables and other healthy items. These are usually impoverished areas, where there is a dearth of grocery stores, and farmers’ markets. These communities have often been termed food deserts. The Smile project helps to address this issue by providing fresh fruits and vegetables once a month to the Project Smile children. With corporate sponsors like Feeding Tampa Bay, Mosaic, and other small contributors, Project Smile has grown from 100 to 175 children. We need to serve more children; help is needed. Our goal is to raise an additional $10,000, to reach 200 “Food Insecure” children next year. This would represent about 1/3 of the school population. Your donation will go to feeding kids who otherwise might go hungry each weekend. Help us provide a weekend backpack of food for the children at Gibsonton Elementary. Your donation can impact a child greatly. Donate today, to help those kids tomorrow. Your donation is tax deductible. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon Foundation is a 501 C3 charitable organization under IRS rules. (EIN 59-3374183 for the Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon Foundation).
