THE STORY:
Our education efforts are geared toward students in high-poverty schools struggling to meet basic education requirements. The Haynes Project is committed to working with these schools to provide much needed resources and will help prepare and motivate youth to commit to their education. High-poverty schools are categorized by the percentage of students eligible to receive free or reduced-price lunch - that is, in these schools, 75 percent or more of the student enrollment is eligible for free or reduced-price meals. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2007–08, there were 16,122 schools, or 17 percent of all public schools, that were considered high-poverty schools.
Our Goal
Research has shown that an individual student who is eligible for free or reduced price lunch is at risk for academic failure. Research has shown that an individual student who is eligible for free or reduced price lunch is at risk for academic failure. The risk factors for individual students can be mitigated by extra support and academic assistance to ensure academic success. The Haynes Project is committed to building a network of partners committed to identifying high-poverty schools in our area who lack the resources necessary to facilitate a productive learning environment and implement programs that help them build programs that eliminate the disparities in education created by poverty.
