BENEFITING: PROJECTEXPLORER LTD
ProjectExplorer.org is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2003 on the principle of exposing young students to the diversity of the world's cultures and histories - particularly those for whom travel is an economic impossibility. Too many American students lack a basic understanding of global geography and current events, thanks to a thoroughly insular education. Approximately 75% of polled educators, parents and hiring managers in a recent national study agreed that students who understand other countries and cultures will be more successful than those who don't. And yet only 30% of educators regularly incorporate material about other countries and cultures into their lesson plans. The primary reason for not doing so is a lack of resources.
ProjectExplorer.org is directly addressing this dichotomy. Founder Jenny Buccos and her extraordinary team have been providing multi-media materials at NO COST since 2006. In their research, they have found NO other organization or company (free or fee-based) providing globally focused materials on such a massive scale for the primary and secondary school communities. The mission is simple - bringing the world into the classrooms of children with lesson plans that improve students’ global awareness and cross cultural understanding.
This November, ProjectExplorer.org will produce their first videos and lessons from South America when they capture the history, culture, and traditions of Peru.
