THE STORY:

Institute for Systems Biology wrote -

Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle has launched Project Feed 1010 in order to try to figure out how to feed 10 billion people by 2050. Our researchers are studying aquaponics – growing vegetables and fish in a symbiotic environment that uses minimal or no soil, and requires up to 90 percent less water than conventional land-based farming. ISB is using the power of crowd-sourcing by recruiting high school science teachers – and their students – across the country to become citizen scientists. The teachers will use curriculum ISB developed, DIY aquaponics systems, and an app that ISB engineers created to collect data that will help shape the future of sustainable urban agriculture.

Your support will help us refine the curriculum module and app, as well as provide the necessary materials (probes) and support to teachers and students. It takes $667 to help a teacher or just $24 per student to become a citizen scientist in this environmental community science project.
