I know some of you might be wondering why I have decided to spend a week of my time this summer at Camp Kindle. I have had a special place in my heart for individuals infected or affected by HIV since I began my internship at the Lake County Health Department in January 2003. Since taking a career change, working with individuals with HIV has been something that I always wanted to still be able to do. I feel that by participating in fundraising and then volunteering my time at the camp will help me fulfill my desire to give back to this population
Through working at the Lake County Health Department with adults who were infected with HIV I realize how much of an impact HIV has on the whole family and children. Everyone who has ever worked with individuals with HIV knows that there is still such a stigma around those infected or affected by HIV and often these individuals live in isolation. I would like to be part of the process of giving children the power to overcome the stigma and isolation and believe in themselves and help to make a positive influence not only in their lives, but also helping them to be able to educate others.
I cannot think of a better way to spend one week of my time than giving back to the children who will be shaping America before our eyes and being part of giving them what could be one of the best experiences of their lives! In addition, I would like to play a role in making those who are impacted with HIV’s camp experience above and beyond anything they could have ever imagined.
Any donations big or small will be greatly appreciated and help me to reach my goal of sending one child to camp this summer!
Thank you so much to everyone for your support!!!
