BENEFITING: PROJECT LIFT LA
In 2014, our friends and supporters helped us provide each classroom at Commonwealth Avenue Elementary School with their own printer with ink and paper. Because of their support, we are able to redesign the existing reading garden, turning it into a drought-friendly, shady spot for the kids to enjoy a book from the adjacent library. In 2015, school began, our focus renewed, with a fresh set of urgent items to focus on at Commonwealth. The most pressing, a location is needed on campus for a Parent Resource Center where we can provide quality programming for the Commonwealth Avenue Elementary families. Currently, parents do not have much of a place to gather and meet or organize volunteer efforts. This lack of space also limits the programs that can be offered to the parents. In 2015-2016 our top priorities will be getting this center working with the school and parents to found an active PTA and creating strategic partnerships for the school in the community to bring in quality programs and resources. Funding is needed to bring in the programming, expand our volunteer tutoring programs and homework club, and to continue to fulfill unmet needs at Commonwealth Avenue Elementary.
