THE STORY:

I am a high school student currently attending Wheat Ridge High School in Colorado, USA. I have always enjoyed doing things for the betterment of mankind, and in general helping others. My first fundraiser was in the 6th grade, where I raised over $300 dollars for Charitywater instead of having a birthday party. I still help out in fundraisers and other projects to help the community to this day. I recently saw an ad on youtube for Project Literacy. It intrigued me, so I decided to do some research. What I found was astonishing. Not only is a massive 1/10th of the world illiterate, but this illiteracy can worsen problems like Gender Inequality, Radicalization, FGM (female genital mutilation), Drug Abuse, Infant Mortality, and much, much more. My goal is to raise $1500 to support this cause. This money could provide anything from 1,300+ early reading books for Latin American kids to 34+ years of literacy tutoring in Africa. I reach out to everyone to help me achieve this goal, and to go onto their site @ www.projectliteracy.com, and sign the petition, already signed by businessman Richard Branson and acterss Lily Cole. And though I don't have an emotional personal connection to this cause, I think everyone has a part to play in making illiteracy a thing of the past: One sentence, one word, one letter at a time. DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN PROJECT LITERACY OR ANY OF ITS CONTENT, INCLUDING THE VIDEOS AND PHOTOS I USE ON THIS SITE. ALL CREDIT GOES TO PEARSON AND IT'S AFFILIATES.
