Dear Community,

I am writing regarding a summer volunteer immersion program to Nicaragua. The program will be approximately 12 days in late July/early August.

The trip will be a mix of volunteer activities arranged through Peace Works (see www.peaceworks.org). Two of the programs we are partnering with are Inhijambia and Fedicamp. We will actively engage the youth in the work being conducted by these two Nicaraguan non-governmental organizations.

Inhijambia is a program that works with Managua's street children, many of whom sniff glue to deaden the pain of daily survival. Inhijamba helps these children get off the streets and gain hope and education for their future.

Fedicamp (The Federation for the Full Development of Rural Peoples) works in the northern mountainous region to promote gender equality, sustainable agriculture, and organic gardens among one of the poorest regions in Nicaragua.

The approximate we need to raise is $22,000 however thanks to other donations that price is now only $10,000 inclusive of airfare, lodging, in-country transportation and most meals. Lodging will consist of a variety of basic eco-lodges, home-stays and hostels.

We are fortunate to have the assistance of Peace Works to guide us in the planning. Peace Works has been successfully leading delegations to Nicaragua to learn more about the struggles of this beautiful country and the inspirational work being done at these programs for over 20 years. Denis has been a member of the Peace Works Board of Directors for the past 10 years and has traveled extensively throughout Nicaragua for the past 23 years.
