First thing first, my name is Ricky Chaney. I have a beautiful wife Sarah and a handsome little boy named Steven. Sarah and I met in college and have been married for 3 years now. I have been an avid runner since my high school days. Although I've always been a runner, I am new to organized races. I ran my first Half last year and was instantly hooked on the atmosphere. The comradery between runners is amazing. Everyone has their own individual goals but if someone goes down, instantly the surrounding people stop to help.
Now for the reason that I decided to run for Project Purple. While our wedding day was a joyous occasion, there was a huge piece missing. 9 months before we said our vows we lost my father-in-law, Steve, to pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed a mere 109 days before he passed away. Steve was a terrific man who was loved by many.
This past summer I also lost my grandmother to cancer. To say she was a fighter would be an understatement. It was very difficult when we lost her because she fought and won for so long, that it gave us false hope. She was a terrific wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I take comfort knowing that she was able to meet my son.
Undoubtedly, we all know someone who has battled with cancer. Any and all forms of cancer are horrible. When you watch someone give all they have and it still not be enough, it breaks your heart. Pancreatic cancer is a disease we simply do not know enough about yet. It is my hope that with your help, this fundraiser might play a small role in finding a cure for this horrific disease.
I want to close this by simply saying Thank You! First, thank you for reading this entire message. In today's society most people can't make it through a 6 second video, let alone a small essay. Lastly, thank you for your donation. I hope this donation is useless in your personal life. It is my hope that if you've never been personally affected by cancer, you never will be. God Bless
