BENEFITING: PROJECT PURPLE
ORGANIZER: PROJECT PURPLE
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
As most of you who know me are aware, my mom, Margie passed away last Febuary after a 5 month battle with this disease. She was diagnosed almost by accident in August of 2012, while being worked up for an unrelated problem. She was not yet showing any signs of pancreatic disease when a mass was spotted on an MRI. A biopsey confirmed a malignacy and further imaging showed that the disease had already spread to her liver. She went through chemotherapy as surgery was not an option and did well initially. We had a good Christmas and she was able to see six of her seven grandchildren. Shortly afer New Years she had some additional tests which showed that the tumors had begun to grow again. Before we could consider any additional therapy her condition began to deteriorate. She passed away at home on Feb. 19th 2013.
I was looking at ways that I could possibly help in raising awareness about this particular cancer and found Project Purple online. It will allow me to combine my personal goal to run the New York Marathon in the home town of my middle daughter Morgan, and raise money for a worthy cause as well. Any support provided will be greatly appreciated and will hopefully lead to a cure in the future.
Ok so here is your chance to make History with Project Purple and join our team for the 2013 ING New York City Marathon. Join us as we raise awareness and funds towards a cure for Pancreatic Cancer.
Pancreatic Cancer is the 4th largest killer of all cancers and the least funded of the top 10 cancer killers today. We need to do more - we have lost one too many friends, family and loved ones to this evil cancer.
Project Purple has a mission of Running To Beat Pancreatic Cancer !
Funds you raise will go to support families battling this EVIL cancer and funding for research towards a cure or early test.
