BENEFITING: PROJECT PURPLE
ORGANIZER: PROJECT PURPLE
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
Pancreatic cancer is a horrible disease. Katie & I are running (again) with Project Purple to help those who need our support, to raise funds to beat this disease and to be strong for those who are fighting every day!
Project Purple is dedicated to assisting patients in treatment. They distribute care bags, provide transportation, fund support groups and create an encouraging & compassionate network for those who battle this disease.
While many of us read about celebrities (Patrick Swayze to Alan Rickman) who have succumb to pancreactic cancer, our story is much more personal. My stepfather, Ron, was diagnosed in 2012. His surgery was a success and he went 3 years cancer free. But pancreactic cancer doesn't quit... SO NEITHER WILL WE! His battle resumed last year when the cancer returned. We do what we can with the tools we have. Katie & I run to raise money.
Unfortunately, pancreactic cancer recently moved up to the #3 cancer killer in the U.S. (over breast cancer) but is still one of the least funded of the top 10 cancers! Project Purple continues to raise thousands and give grants to some of the best medical minds in this field (including $125,000 to both NYU & Columbia). In just over 4 years of fundraising, Project Purple has suprassed the $1,000,000 mark! That is thanks to you! We can and will make a difference!

Project Purple is running in this race to raise money and awareness for pancreatic cancer. We use funds raised in all of our races to support our three main programs: research, patient aid, and scholarships.
