When I was 4 years old, my grandmother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She lived for about 1 year after being diagnosed, but she was in constant pain and there was no specific treatment available, only generic chemotherapy.
My mother passed away on October 22, 2015 a little over a month after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was 71 years old. There was no time to process the news or discuss treatment options.
33 years have passed since pancreatic cancer killed my grandmother and the treatment options haven't changed significantly. Many people don't even receive a diagnosis until it is too late to treat the disease.
I will be running on May 1st in order to raise money to improve the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.
