Hi Friends and Family,
Recently, my family and I lost my grandad to Pancreatic Cancer. He battled for over a year, but unfortunately it eventually became too much. Surrounded by his family, he passed away in February.
Gerry Lowden was an incredible grandad. He inpsired me to love the outdoors and our surrounding environment, to attack my work and education with great energy and eagerness, to travel the world as often as possible, and to approach every day with encouragement and enthusiasm. I am thankful everyday that he inspired me to do all this.
When I was training for my first half-marathon a couple of years ago, he rode his bike alongside me on a couple of my training runs. And last year when I completed my first full marathon, he was the first person I called to tell my result.
For all this and more, I am running the 2017 New York Marathon in my grandads honor, and fundraising for project purple.
Thank you everyone for reading my story, and for anything you are able to give. If you are in New York, I hope to see you on the course on November 5th!
