I've always been an active runner, usually running 4-5 miles daily, and over the last few years competed in Half Marathons and shorter distance races. I've always said I would run a marathon at some point, and ideally wanted it to be NY. I decided 2017 would be the year, and I want to do it for a charity that now has tremendous meaning to my family and myself.
In April of 2016, just 1 month after getting some minor stomach pains, my father, who was the rock of my family, as well as my best friend, was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer. Instantly our lives changed, we went from planning trips and playing sports, to beginning the fight of his life. My father being the true fighter that he was fought the good fight, never once letting this diagnosis defeat him. His outlook and determination to defy the odds was inpsiring, his attitude and spirit never wavered during this battle. My father started off his fight in Miami, before moving to Arizona and finally coming home to Trinidad to finish his race after 10 hard months. Sadly he succumbed to this horrible disease in January of 2017. Needless to say our lives have been shattered and forever changed, but his memory lives on pushing us towards achieving our goals and dreams. I'm running NY in honor of him, to raise money to fight this disease, and to help other families like mine from experiencing the pain we have! Together we can find answers and a cure!
