Thank you all for your support for Project Purple! I'm a bit over halfway to my goal of $3500. I've raised $1790 with $1710 yet to go to meet See more
In January of this year, my beautiful wife and the love of my life, died unexpectedly. Karen was the one who convinced me several years ago that I could run half-marathons and marathons. She was my biggest cheerleader and convinced me to believe in myself. Karen participated in many half-marathons, completing eight as a walker. In recent years, we both found ourselves intrigued by the work done by Project Purple, a charity for pancreatic cancer. In September of 2004, Karen's mom, Kay McMorris, died of pancreatic cancer having been diagnosed just six months earlier. Kay was the wife of Alan, the mother of Karen and Linda, my mother-in-law, and a very special grandma to our two sons, Sean and Ryan. Her death was a profound loss. Ironically, Karen's Uncle Jim, also died of the same disease in January of 2004, just eight months prior to Kay's death. Because of our personal experience with pancreatic cancer, Karen always wanted to get involved with Project Purple. At the various races and expos we attended and participated in, she would always seek out the Project Purple Booth and cheer enthusiastically for each Project Purple runner she observed. I am running the NYC Marathon for Karen. I want to give her the opportunity to help Project Purple fight pancreatic cancer through me. Mike Murphy http://www.projectpurple.org
