I'm running the 2017 New York City Marathon with Project Purple, and would be forever grateful if you could help support my very special cause!
In July 2015 my Uncle Geoff was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. The months that followed were fast, confusing, special, treasured, sad, happy, loving, enlightening, enriching, and always fearful and surreal. Nothing prepares you for just how aggressive PC really is.
The race is on November 5th, a couple of weeks before the two year anniversary of Geoff's passing. It's so crazy to think that all the time we had left with him was only the equivalent of a marathon training cycle. This is why Project Purple and the work that they do is SO important.
Project Purple does some really phenomenal things for PC, which this year surpassed breast cancer and became the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the US. Project Purples mission is to find a cure for PC and to improve the lives of patients through support, hope and compassion.
Project Purple provides funding for critical PC research. They're helping fund research for an early detection test for PC, as there's currently no form of early detection for this deadly form of cancer. The best odds at survival come when the disease is caught in its earliest stages.
They also fund studies which seek effective methods to treat PC, and offer grants to graduate students who are pursuing a career in PC research.
Not only that, but Project Purple recognises that there are patients fighting PC right now that need their help. They assist patients through their Patient Financial Aid program, and provide patients with Blankets of Hope Care Bags.
They believe no one should fight this battle alone.
