~~I still dream of the days Zeidy used to pinch my cheeks and call me his little sunshine. Ten years ago I lost my grandfather to Pancreatic Cancer. Pancreatic Cancer is the 4th leading killer of all cancers and is very deadly. I remember the day he went into the hospital. He died exactly a week later. One week after Zeidy’s death my mother found out she was pregnant with my baby brother. I believe this continued the circle of life, and I am very grateful.I want to help raise funds for medical research into Pancreatic Cancer.

I am choosing to run because of the families and loved ones affected by this disease. I also want to continue to celebrate the beautiful circle of life

According to Project Purple 2013-Here is some information on the 3 main programs that your fundraising efforts will support:

1. Scholarship Program– we provide scholarships to children and grandchildren that have lost a loved one to Pancreatic Cancer or have a loved one fighting. Candidates have to be either enrolled currently in college or high school senior. We provide small scholarships to help and give hope to continue their higher education

2. Patient Financial Aid Program – we provide families fighting PC with financial aid to help pay the every day bills. Examples maybe rent, mortgage, car, utilities, food and anything else associated with everyday living so families can focus on fighting then worrying about paying these bills.

3. Research for a cure, early detection test or improving the quality of life – we provide funding for research projects that show promise in finding a cure, early detection test or improving the quality of life for people with Pancreatic Cancer. We recently announced two grants of $35,000 each– The 1st went to Tufts Medical Center and the 2nd went to Beth Israel Cancer Center both which are in Boston MA.One last thing that we have done in the past and will continue to use funds for is our “care packs”. These do not cost that much but we send out a “care pack” that includes a fleece blanket, hat, scarf and bag to patients fighting. These have been very popular we also include a small note letting the family and patient know that we are fighting for them and not to give up hope. -
