I am honored to be part of the Project Purple team running in the 2015 Lincoln Half Marathon.
I am not your typical "runner" - I began running less than two years ago simply to support my wife in some cross-training she was doing, and discovered I enjoyed it. Since then, I have participated in one half-marathon and one 80-mile team relay. I am neither fast nor flashy, but I finish!
I will be running in the 2015 Lincoln Half Marathon in memory of my mother, Carole Russell, who died from pancreatic cancer in 2011 at the age of 64. Mom rarely drank, never smoked, exercised moderately, and maintained a healthy diet. When she was diagnosed, we had to google this horrible disease just to figure out what it was. We discovered that not only is there little information about its causes, there is also scant research compared to other types of cancer due to its high mortality rate. We'd like to change that.
Mom always believed that, in order to move forward, you had to put one foot in front of the other. I will be doing that on May 3, 2015 in the Lincoln Half Marathon. I hope that you will consider funding me as I seek to raise $1000 and awareness for Project Purple in honor of my mother. Together, we can beat pancreatic cancer.
