At the heart of ProNica's work is the awareness that people in marginalized communities understand their own problems and are in the best positions to innovate their own solutions. Tax ID 82-0546987

We assist in creating and sustaining programs initiated by and for the Nicaraguan people. Priorities are community organizing, economic development, non-violence training, women's health, education, sustainable agriculture and women's empowerment. We help to educate North Americans about the history and current reality of Nicaragua, and the impact of U.S. foreign policy in Nicaragua and the region.

ProNica works in solidarity with Nicaraguan grassroots communities and creates educational programs for North Americans to learn about the history and current conditions in Nicaragua, and the impacts of U.S. foreign policy.

ProNica was founded in 1986 under the auspices of the Southeastern Yearly Meeting (SEYM) of the Religious Society of Friends, or Quakers, in order to ship medical, educational, and technical aid to communities in need. ProNica became an independent non-profit corporation in 2002. In 2006, ProNica became an officially registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Nicaragua.

ProNica is one of 2 solidarity organizations to continue to work in Nicaragua after the end of the Sandinista Revolution. In the 1990s, our focus shifted from sending material aid (no longer as necessary after the end of the U.S. embargo) to supporting the efforts of Nicaraguan grassroots communities addressing their communities' needs.
ProNica's work is accomplished by an international core of dedicated volunteers and staff working with Nicaraguans in their communities, guided by Quaker principles of consensual decision making, respect and commitment to peace
