BENEFITING: COOL EARTH ACTION USA INC
I met Oka and Otong in March. They are two young orangutan who were orphaned in a human-created forest blaze that ravaged their family along with a section of Bornean rainforest they called home. I was overwhelmed and quickly found myself determined to help ensure their survival and that of their species.
Orangutan are one of the most critically endangered of the great apes largely due to habitat loss as a result of deforestation and palm oil plantations that are devastating Indonesia. Once found throughout much of Southeast Asia, the orangutan is today restricted to just two islands in the Indo-Malay archipelago, Borneo and Sumatra. This is a crucial time for orangutan and they need our help! Here is what you can do.
100% of all donations to this campaign will be directed toward the Protect Our Borneo Orangutan Sanctuary. Let's help get 1000 people to give just $10 each to help these orangutan in need! (microfunding)
A couple of quick “did you knows” to get things started:
1. Orangutan are the slowest breeding mammal on earth.
2. Orangutan only have one baby at a time.
3. Baby Orangutan have a lot to learn about life in the forest and stay with their mothers until they are 7 or 8 years old. For for the first 4-6 years, they hold tight to their mother’s body as she moves through the forest in search of fruit.
Oka and Otong were rescued at one month and one year old, respectively. They have other friends, the same age, who need our help to get back on their feet (and hands)!
Please take a moment to learn more, share their story and ask others to do the same. (100% of all donations to this campaign will be directed toward the Protect Our Borneo Orangutan Sanctuary.)
