BENEFITING: ACTION ON SMOKING & HEALTH
Every. Single. Day. Tobacco products wreak havoc on our environment. We’ve all seen the ubiquitous cigarette butts littering roadways and sidewalks, but did you know tobacco farming contributes significantly to deforestation, and litter threatens aquatic ecosystems? Tobacco growing, manufacturing, consumption, and disposal all hurt the environment with substantial and dangerous contamination.
ASH is seizing the opportunity to quickly launch a campaign to address this issue in the global tobacco treaty negotiations in New Delhi this November. Among the tobacco control advocates and experts, we will be pushing for country delegates to begin taking action to stop the negative environmental impacts of tobacco.
We only have a few weeks before the negotiations so please help us develop the policy support tools needed to bring experienced environmentalist Clifton Curtis, CEO/President of the Cigarette Butt Pollution Project to the negotiations to build international support to confront the harmful impact of tobacco on the environment.
All contributions are fully tax deductible and will help support:
- Production of policy papers and translation into 6 working languages of the WHO
- Retention of a proven policy expert from the environmental field on the ground to direct campaign efforts; and
- Educate the decision makers who are likely largely unfamiliar with the havoc tobacco wreaks on the environment.
Together, we can shine a light on this issue and protect our world from the toxic and hazardous impacts of tobacco.
