Protect the Ducks at Sunset Park from Fishing Lines/Hooks
Organized by: Fabio Fox
EVENT DATE Aug 11, 2014
I have been noticing more and more ducks an geese at the pond in Las Vega's Sunset Park entangled in fishing line and hooks. These creatures are clearly being subjected to protracted and arduous deaths: sometimes having choked limbs die causing death from gangrene and infection; sometimes causing death my starvation. This is both terribly cruel to these birds, and ruinous to the beauty of a rare, family oriented, open space in our city.
This is not a rant against those who partake of fishing in the park's artificial pond; partly in whose interest the pond was created. I am convinced that those fishing at this pond are not aware of the damage being inflicted upon the resident and migratory birds by their debris. The purpose of this campaign is to produce informative leaflets which can be distributed to those fishing at the pond, as well as small posters/PSAs to be affixed around the ponds perimeter showing the suffering of the ducks, and imploring those fishing to take care and ensure their fishing lines and hooks are properly disposed of.
I expect this project can be realized with as little as $10. Excess funds will be used to prolong the campaign so long as possible, and possibly to extend the campaign to other parks in the Las Vegas area similarly affected.
