Provide a free summer camp for children who can't afford it
Organized by: Jssica Soares
A summer camp is a supervised program for children or teenagers conducted during the summer months, only accessible to those who can afford it. The Summer Camp "Colónia Balnear de Aveiras de Cima" wants to change this for street children in Aveiras de Cima. This summer camp only asks children to pay as much as they can: some can pay 300$, some can pay 10$. Some can't pay anything at all; they all go. As a result of feeding them, spending electricity and/or water on the course of summer this summer camp has now a debt of 4000$. We count with young volunteers (in their 20s) to take these children to see the sea (sometimes for the first time!), take care of these children, cook for them, and ensure they can enjoy those days and not think about their problematic families for a while. Finding these volunteers is becoming hard, since most young people prefer spend their summer with their families or working somewhere they get well paid for little work. Indeed these volunteers give all they have: They can wake up at 6am when they just got to sleep at 4am because they were planning the next day; Staying in the cold sea because children want to play a little longer; Hear ungrateful children after a long day of hard work; and so on. Even though these extraordinary people want to help these children, we soon may have to shut down the camp if the debt isn't paid. Please help us to keep providing a summer to these children!
