THE STORY:

U.S. Open Cycling’s Providence Hill Climb encourages cyclists of all ages and abilities to put their mettle to the pedal in a fun challenge on Sunday, October 3. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Smith and Canal Streets in Providence.

“The U.S. Open Cycling Foundation is all about helping people integrate cycling for fitness, fun and transportation into their daily lives,” said Richard Durishin, executive director of U.S. Open Cycling. America is fighting an overweight and obesity epidemic that involves over 60% of our population and costs more than $185 billion each year. U.S. Open Cycling works to empower individuals to win that war. There are cyclists of all abilities in the area and we have created the Providence Hill Climb to appeal to everyone who rides a bike, from schoolchildren to bicycle commuters, bicycle police, USA Cycling-licensed racers and bicycle messengers.”

Individual cyclists and teams of all ages and abilities can test their strength and stamina on this 0.17-mile course, which features 63-foot vertical rise.
