Providing for Paws mission is to rescue neglected, abused and sick animals, or animals that have been displaced from their home. We frequently work in communities that have a high rate of stray animals such as Detroit. We are commonly in these areas and working to educate owners with animals in bad situations. We often find strays that come to us very neglected or abused such as Tyson, Patty and Dixon to name a few of some of the many severly abused animals we have taken in.
Providing for Paws has several people asking if they can surrender their family pet(s) to us every day. We first ask to see if we can help the families keep their pets in the home by offering our services. When out on the road or when we are checking on an animal that might be in jeopardy, we always try to educate the owner(s) because we feel education is the key reducing the number of animals that end up in rescues and shelters.
However, if we can provide services to help keep the animal in that home while supporting and educating the owner on proper pet care, this will benefit both the animal and rescue organizations. Unfortunately, the need for rescue and shelter placement is much greater than the availability and typically outweighs the help we must offer through rescue.
If we provide what we can to help keep the animal in the home and check in often to see how the animal is doing. If we feel the animal is still being neglected after we try to educate the owner, we will ask the owner to surrender that animal to us or another rescue organization, for the greater good of the animal. However, if we can provide services to help keep that animal in the home while educating the owner on proper pet care, this will benefit both the animal and rescue organizations since the need typically outweighs the help we must offer through rescue.
Our goal is to someday have no more abused, neglected or displaced animals.
Please help us reach our goal today to help Providing for Paws win the 4th annual Michelson Found Animals Saving Pets Challenge 2017
