PS 20 is a NYC public elementary school on the Lower East Side in New York City. From April 16-26, 2011 we are holding our Spring Read-A-Thon, an event which helps students form strong reading habits while raising funds for school programs. We are looking for sponsors for our young readers!
The Read-A-Thon encourages all of our students, from Pre-K to 5th grade, to read for at least 1 hour a day during their spring break, either on their own or with their families. Families and friends sponsor the children by pledging a given amount of money per minute of reading. At the end of 11 days, students tally their reading hours (honor system!) and collect on their pledges. Top readers and fundraisers will receive medals to honor their achievements.
All of the proceeds of this Read-A-Thon go to enrichment programming at PS 20. For example, this year's funds will go to reinstate our music program, and support our dance classes and moving-up ceremonies.
This spring, we are reaching out to our community for additional support! PS 20 has unfortunately faced many tough budget cuts. We need to raise $10,000 just to maintain current student programs! We hope you consider becoming a sponsor of our Read-A-Thon.
Please Note: If you want your donation to go towards a certain class's fundraising, please write the class teacher's name or number in the note attached to the donation!
