BENEFITING: P S 39 PARENT ASSOCIATION INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
PS39 PACES (Parents and Children Exercising Simultaneously) was born out of PS 39's School Wellness Council. An elementary public school located in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn - was faced with a challenge. In the school year 2013-2014 due to budget cuts, our Gym Teacher worked only part time at our school and our kids were only having gym class once a week and in some cases only once every other week. Clearly, not even meeting the Department of Education's minimal exercise requirements for kids. Active parents decided to do something about it. We formed a School Wellness Council and brought activity back to the whole school - including students, administration, staff and families. To continue the momentum, we need funds to create more Family Fitness Fridays (a 10-Week early morning exercise program for the whole family before school starts) and healthy food participatory educational programs. We're looking for funds to help us create, sustain and kick off our program. We're so grateful for your support!
School Year 2014-2015, PS 39 does have a full time gym teacher, although many classes have gym only once/week. With your help, we can increase physical activity moments into their day, everyday!
