BENEFITING: ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer
EVENT DATE: Nov 13, 2011
After some time and reflection about my father and what he would want from a fundraiser in his name, I have changed Team Poppy's Mission. My Dad truly would have wanted to help others. A couple weeks after my Dad passed away, he received a touching letter from a man he had only met once. The man talked about how my Dad, through his story, had saved his life. This man was newly diagnosed with prostate cancer and my Dad told him to have surgery right away, not to waste any time debating other treatments. Through my Dad's personal story, this man scheduled his surgery and is now in remission. The message Paul Sehnert would have wanted to share with others would be about prevention, regular screening and immediate surgery for those diagnosed.
Team Poppy's fundraising will benefit an organization called Zero Cancer. Zero Cancer is an organization that supports Prostate Cancer screenings, education and research.
Here is their mission:
The Project to End Prostate Cancer, we commit ourselves not only to reduce prostate cancer or alleviate the pain from the disease but to end it. We see a future where all men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer will be cured or manage their illness with good quality of life, with the support they need to minimize physical and emotional suffering and to cope effectively throughout their cancer journeys.
Paul Sehnert passed away from prostate cancer June 5, 2011, surrounded by his family, at his home on Lake Hopatcong, NJ.
He was an amazing father and grandfather. He worked so hard to take care of his family and gave his kids and grandkids so much love and affection. His smile and laugh were one-of-a-kind and infectious. Our family did everything we could to keep Poppy with us as long as we could.
Let's stop prostate cancer and save other people...people who are someone's dad, son, brother, uncle, friend.
HOW TO FUNDRAISE AND/OR DONATE TO TEAM POPPY (ZERO CANCER)
I am still going to keep the PO Box opened for those who'd rather mail a check, however, I can connect directly with Zero Cancer through this Crowdrise fundraising web page.
If you'd like to still mail a check:
Checks are payable to: Jennifer Sehnert
I opened a separate "fundraising" e-billing bank account where all the donations will be deposited and I can keep track of our total amount raised and post updates to the team!
Donations should be mailed to:
Jennifer Winsor, PO Box 382, Newport, RI 02840
When I manually add offline donations to this web page, I can indicate that donations were raised by a particular team member if a note is attached with your name (i.e., $20 raised by Gordon Winsor).
*NOTE: The bank account is under Sehnert, but the PO Box is under Winsor. Sorry for the confusion!
