BENEFITING: PHI SIGMA PI NATIONAL HONOR FRATERNITY
EVENT DATE: Oct 21, 2013
This October I'll be turning 30. I know - it's a pretty big deal.
Also in October, a chapter of my National Honor Fraternity - Phi Sigma Pi - is traveling to Moore, OK to help with recovery/cleanup efforts after the May tornadoes. The Beta Phi chapter will be driving from Western Kentucky University (Bowling Green, KY) for a long weekend to help the citizens with ongoing rebuilding efforts. The town is incredibly close to my former home of Norman, and there are so many people close to my heart who live, have lived, and/or have family living in Moore.
This is also a big deal.
I'm so proud to see my Brothers helping to care for the place I've called home. I can't make it there to help them, so I'm doing what I can to help from far away. I can't think of a better way to celebrate my favorite day of the year than by supporting things that I love.
My goal is raise the equivalent of the price of a plane ticket (approximately $350) from NYC to Oklahoma City. The money will go toward travel costs, supplies, meals for the Brothers volunteering, and/or any other costs of their incredible effort. If they get more than they need (wouldn't that be awesome‽), it'll be donated to the organization they're working with: Mission to North America (MNA - http://pcamna.org/disaster-response/) MNA has provided them with a place to stay while they're in Oklahoma.
I really don't need much from anyone. I only ask that this year, instead of buying me a drink, you contribute $10 to this campaign (I'd suggest less, but that's the Crowdrise minimum). Or more if you're feeling like a high roller. If you're feeling really generous, toss in $30 in honor of my surviving 30 whole years on this planet. And then, when you see me, give me a hug. That's all the gift I really need.
