BENEFITING: Louisiana Heroes Project
Family & Friends are uniting to help Eric, a disabled combat vet, get a puppy to begin training as a Service Dog to assist him.
Eric, 37 years old, is a disabled Combat Veteran living in Lake Charles, La with his wife and 3 boys that are 8,14, and 16 years old. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004-2005 as an Infantryman where he saw and experienced things that live with him to this day. Because of this, social interactions and a normal daily life are nonexistent, which keeps him from enjoying time with his family and kids. Eric has been working with his VA doctors and a private trainer to help prepare him and his family for the possibility of a Service Dog.
We were contacted last month by a private donor that had just had a litter of German Shepherd puppies and wanted to donate one to a Soldier in need. This will be the 2nd dog from the donor donated specifically for a Service Dog for a disabled veteran. The mentality and intelligence of this blood line is perfect for this Veteran, as is the timing of the litter.
We will be driving from Central Louisiana to New Mexico to pick the puppy up from the donor and return home. The trip will include Josh, Eric, Grunt (Josh's Service Dog), and on the way home, Hammer (Eric's puppy we are picking up). Josh and Eric were deployed together in Iraq, most of the time they were in the same vehicle, Josh in the drivers seat and Eric in the gunners hatch. They fought together in war, now they are fighting together against the effects of war.
The money donated will be used for:
•Transportation to and from New Mexico from Louisiana. Total estimated mileage is roughly 2500 miles. The vehicle being used gets roughly 14mpg (is setup for transporting service dogs) (2500 miles/ 14mpg=178 gallons of fuel. 178 gals x $3.65per gallon totals roughly $650 just in fuel costs )
•Lodging: motel room for 2 nights. ($210)
•Food: For 2 of us ($20 per person per day for 6 days = $240)
•Veterinary costs: Shots, neuter, etc ($200)
ABOUT LOUISIANA HEROES PROJECT:
Louisiana Heroes Project is non-profit organization that proudly supports our Louisiana military, veterans, wounded warriors and their families.
Our mission is to provide emergency financial, education, employment and morale assistance to our Louisiana service members, wounded warriors, veterans and their families.
As a volunteer led, non-profit organization, our purpose is to provide a program that doesn’t just stop at financial assistance but leads to a path of financial recovery. We assist Louisiana service members, wounded warriors, veterans and their families in education assistance, financial recovery and job placement with military friendly companies who are aware of their obligations of duty....
WHO WE SUPPORT
We support Louisiana National guardsman and Reservists, regardless of activation status, wounded warriors, veterans and their families, in addition to the Active Duty military components in our state.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
We are dedicated to keeping it local. With so many national non-profit organizations, our local heroes can be overlooked when donations go into a "national f...und". When you support LHP, you are supporting the service members who are residents of our state and members of our communities.
When you support LHP not only are you supporting the service member stationed in Louisiana but you are supporting the soldier who teaches our children, the marine reservists that delivers our mail, the coast guardsman who rescues our citizens from a sinking vessel, the air national guardsmen that flies over our skies at night when a threat is detected in our airspace, the veteran who served honorably or the family who sacrifices time with their loved ones so we can sleep safely at night.
