African PTSD Relief

100 Million African suffer Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) arising from war, violence, sexual abuse and natural disaster. Our Mission is to: • To reduce PTSD and its symptoms in the lives of millions of affected Africans by utilizing an evidence-based approach, the Transcendental Meditation program. • To help prevent PTSD in the lives of all Africans at risk for this disorder • To help attain a wide range of benefits associated with PTSD relief

Africa is a continent whose rich and diverse cultural history has significance for all the people of our planet.  The most valuable asset of the continent is its vast human resource. But in the past 20 years, up to 100 million Africans have been negatively affected by war, terrorism, violent crime, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and natural disasters. These traumas have produced an epidemic rise of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) across the continent.

PTSD Relief Now (PRN), and its Africa projects, called African PTSD Relief is dedicated to improving the quality of life of all Africans by providing relief from PTSD.  African PTSD Relief aims to reduce the pandemic of PTSD in Africa by making available the scientifically validated and cost-effective Transcendental Meditation (TM) program. This program has been shown to significantly reduce PTSD symptoms in a wide range of settings in Africa and around the world.

Two studies in the Journal of Traumatic Stress (April, 2013; February 2014) show that 990% of Congolese refugees with a high level of PtSD symptoms became non-symptomatic within 30 days of learning TM. The non-TM control group showed no changes in symptoms over the 135 day study.

PRN’s activities include project development, project implementation, scientific research, and it PRN seeks funds for these projects. For this specific strategic plan, the projects focus on the continent of Africa, thus the title of the document is African PTSD Relief.

Currently projects to reduce PTSD are under way across Africa, including Kenya, South Africa, Namibya, Senegal and othe locations.

10,000 Africans with PtSD or at high risk have asked for help and await support.
