Since 1992, Public Allies has recruited and trained over 6,000 diverse leaders in 25 communities nationwide. Leaders like these three individuals:
- Marvin, an alumnus who lives with multiple sclerosis and was homeless when he began volunteering for Public Allies Chicago. He later joined the program and served his Ally apprenticeship at Chicago Public Schools, which was so impressed with his commitment that he was recently hired to work full time in the Diverse Learners Supports + Services division.
- Markus, an Ally in Detroit. Unemployed when he joined our program, Markus works for a civil and human rights organization and plans to return to college. “Since I’ve joined Public Allies, I have real goals and real aspirations in life,” says Markus. “My life is now dedicated to serving, and I love it.”
- Chau’ve, an Ally in Minneapolis who grew up in extreme poverty and has experienced homelessness. “I chose Public Allies so I could fight for others,” says Chau’ve, who works with homeless youth and families. “I want to create a voice for people experiencing homelessness.”
Chau’ve, Markus, Marvin, and thousands of others who have joined Public Allies are part of the solution for a better America. Thank you for being part of the solution, too!
