Team Shenoba - Keeping the dream alive and pulling "The Fuze" on Lupus. Shenoba Kinsey, Magazine owner & Radio personality fighting back!  See more

Shenoba's Story: Back in 1994, I was diagnosed with Lupus.  Prior to my diagnosis, I was having unbearable pain in my joints at times and other times it was hard for me to get out of bed.  Someone I knew who worked in the physical therapy department at Baylor told me that it sounded like I had a disease called Lupus.  She gave me the whole run down and told me I needed to see a doctor.  Because I had never heard of it, I ignored what was told to me.  One day, I literarily could not get out of bed.  It felt as if someone had put a ton of bricks on me and they were weighing me down, accompanied by this intensifying pain.  I called in sick and stayed in the bed that day.  My children were young and had to miss school that day.  Over the course of a couple of days, I began to feel better, but it was still hard for me to open the door and even life something as light as a fork.  I called my physician’s office and scheduled an appointment.  On the day of the appointment, I didn’t know what to expect or what my doctor would find.  After they completed the lab work, I was told to wait in the room until they tested my blood samples.  About an hour later my doctor came back and explained that I had a disease called Lupus.  He provided pamphlets and other types of literature and a referral to a rheumatologist.  I felt like that day was the end of the comfortable life I once knew, but it wasn’t.  As the years went by, I learned how to cope with the disease and to keep my doctor’s appointments.  I know that God has a purpose for me because I’m still here.  He wants us all to love and take care of ourselves.  We have to eat healthy and live right.  Sometimes we may cheat a little by eating unhealthy and not exercising, but we have to get back on the right track to maintain a healthy us.  “Make and effort, Not an excuse
