Several local badasses have issued a challenge to their friends and family this month: Donate and I'll SHAVE IT OFF!
Five years ago, Rachel Valentine, community education director at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center, shaved her head in her living room. Now, five years and a whole lot of punk cuts later, 100 people will come at Local 506 on June 18th to participate in “Punk Cuts to End Rape,” an annual fundraiser to raise money for the center.
Our Hawkstars pledge an amount of their choice and raise money to meet their goal. If you help them meet their pledge amount, they are awarded with a buzz cut of their choice: mohawk, undercuts, side of the head, whole head shaved — anything goes as long as it involves hair clippers!
After participants’ heads are newly shaved, Local 506 will turn into a dance party to celebrate!
“The Punk Cuts to End Rape Campaign is an effort to grow the funder-base of the Orange County Rape Crisis Center—but it is not strictly a financial move. In my philosophy of community engagement, fundraising is an activation activity; an effort to raise awareness of the urgent issue at hand, but also the fact that everyone has some badass in their life who is willing to go to extreme lengths to act upon their passion for ending sexual violence. That’s the kind of community I want to live in. Punk-Cutting to End Rape is the kind of activity that pushes forward the social and cultural change that must happen for sexual violence to end.” –Rachel Valentine

The staff at OCRCC has devoted all of their time and energy to ending rape. Will you help us fight rape culture by devoting a little bit of cash for the cause? All Proceeds of this fundraiser go to the Orange County Rape Crisis Center which has provided excellent service and prevention education in the community for over 40 years!
