THE STORY:

UPDATE: Indigo has recovered from her FHO hip surgery and is ready to find her perfect forever family for the holidays! She deserves only the best  Love this gal! http://www.adoptapet.com/pet/10021035-issaquah-washington-terrier-unknown-type-medium-mix. However we are still looking for donations to help fund the bill for her surgery.

---------

Everyday animal shelters and rescue organizations around the country struggle with the pet overpopulation problem. Often loving pets are abandoned by their owners with medical needs that can be corrected. Unfortunately these surrendered pets have only a 50% chance of finding a new family (even less in some areas). With the support from our caring veterinarians and donations from our supporters, many of these loving pets can recover and ‘pay it forward’ with years of companionship and love. So here starts the story of just one of those deserving pets Indigo, the young, homeless, single mom.

Indigo’s Story
Indigo, the 7lb terrier, was found as a stray and came into PUP with her 4 puppies and a painful leg injury. After weaning her puppies, she moved into one of our foster homes and this “sweet, gentle pup with a heart of gold wiggled her way into our hearts,” comments her foster mom Sara. Indigo is a fighter, she has a youthful spirit and loves to play with the other dogs in her foster home despite having an abnormal development of the hip joint.

This little girl is a total sweetheart. She insists upon belly rubs and cuddle time with her foster family. Due to her injury, and pregnancy, she was abandoned at a shelter until PUP found her and made her a part of our growing rescue pack.

Indigo Needs Surgery
Even though Indigo is active, happy and loving, this 3 legged pup is in a lot of pain and discomfort due to her condition. PUP is asking our supporters to help raise the $1,800 to afford the FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy) surgery she needs to make her healthy again. After the surgery she will remain in foster care as we nurse her back to health during the 6-week recovery period. Please ask your friends if they can help, or think about how skipping one latte this week can offer an abandoned dog the opportunity at a pain free and long life. Without the support of our wonderful community we wouldn’t be able to provide a “happily ever after” to these deserving companions.

How Can I Help?
Visit our fundraiser page for Indigo on Crowdrise and make a donation. You can also visit our medical needs page on our site to donate and learn how our medial fundraising has helped other dogs: http://www.pupdogrescue.org/medical-fund.html.

What is FHO Surgery?

FHO Surgery (known as dog Femoral Head Ostectomy or Femoral Head Osteotomy). This surgery is used instead of a total hip replacement, and eliminates the bone to bone contact of the femur hip socket which causes such pain. This simple ball and socket joint should fit securely together giving the dog the ability to comfortably move their legs back and forth through full range of motion without any pain.
