HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE OZARKS INC wrote -The Humane Society of the Ozarks received a call about a very ill puppy that was being taken into custody by an area animal control services. They knew this 4 month old Border Collie/Labrador Retriever mix puppy had not only been neglected, but she had serious health problems that will require extensive veterinary care that was beyond the scope of their facility and resources. We agreed to take her and Violet arrived at our veterinarian late on Friday afternoon. She has a large wound at the base of her tail and it has developed a massive abscess which has spread all the way up her back with multiple skin eruptions from the infection. She is also very thin and malnourished.
Despite being so sick, she nuzzled my hand when I gently rubbed her nose and wagged her tail.
She has been started on antibiotics and pain meds. Next week she will begin hydro-therapy to facilitate cleaning her wounds and healing.
She will need extensive treatment before she is ready for a loving foster home and then adoption where for the first time in her short life she will be in a home and part of the family rather than tied to a stake with no shelter.
