THE STORY:

Imagine if we can join together to change the outcomes of women across the world by supporting the work of the Ovarian Cancer Institute based here in the Atlanta area. One in 72 women is diagnosed with ovarian cancer and only 15% of these cancers are detected early. Ovarian cancer is a silent killer as the symptoms are often similar to other common issues women face, such as abdominal cramping, bloating, fatigue and bladder and bowel discomfort. Our studio director, Lori Jones, counts herself as one of the lucky ones and credits the founder of the Ovarian Cancer Institute, Dr. Benedict Benigno, with saving her life. In late 2012, Dr. Benigno removed a massive tumor on her ovary and continues to monitor Lori's health as a survivor of ovarian cancer. A survivor is never really all that far from the disease and more research is needed to find ways to have more women aware of the symptoms so that survivor rates go up. Early detection is key. Help us fund more research and spread awareness of this deadly disease.
