Purple is the ribbon color for pancreatic cancer, Purple is the color of HOPE within the Van Andel Institute. I do not hate too much in life, I do hate Cancer. It destroys good lives, it tries to steal the souls of it's victims, it causes heartache that is irreparable and can ruin families financially as they will go to the ends of the earth to fight.
I have decided to be a part of the Purple Community Team Hope for several reasons as I run the 5K in the 5/3 Riverbank Race on May 13, 2017. My personal hope is the researchers at VI are able to find therapies to help those diagnosed with cancer and Parkinson's. My hope is for their therapies to help patients especially and family members to not endure long days in hospitals, for siblings to not learn and understand medicines that are being taken for so many different reasons relating to a disease that is so often the winner in hard fought battles, hope for those who have no choice but to fight and endure pain and loss of so much of life as they know it, hope to not ever have to hear there is nothing more we can do or invite Hospice into a home. CANCER SUCKS!
As I run (I do not love to run by any means), I think about how many people sit while getting poison (chemo) into their body to fight a disease that is trying to take over, I think about how many people would love to be able to run but cannot for one reason or another, I think about giving up, BUT, I continue to run to the finish line for those who have to endure the above mentioned, because they have no choice. I run because my body is able to and I do love to see the finish line! In May, I will run for HOPE and I will wear Purple to honor my own hero, my son who fought the toughest battle of his life, Cameron Arnold!
I am asking for donations to support the Van Andel Institute . Know that if you decide to donate, 100% of your donation goes directly to research, not a CEO plush vacation or corporation overhead, it will be given directly to research & best of all, it is a local research institute founded in 1996 in Grand Rapids!!! If you are unable to donate now, no worries, I just ask if you ever get the chance and means, please consider Van Andel Institute for your donation. Many of you helped me in the past when I did the 5k for the Purple Community, this is along the same lines. If you decide and have means to donate - THANK YOU!!!!
