BENEFITING: POSITIVE RESULTS CORPORATION

EVENT: Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge

EVENT DATE: Sep 02, 2014

THE STORY:

The Positive Results Corporation has the chance to win $100,000 if we receive the most donations out of 145 charities before noon eastern on Thursday, October 3, 2014!

About Us:

Founded in 1992, The Positive Results Corporation, also known as The PRC, was started by Los Angeles Police Officer, Tony Newsom. Working in the West Valley with the Jeopardy Program, Officer Newsom knew that youth in gangs, at risk, and on the streets were crying out for help. He started working with them, providing mentoring and literacy lesson, and was able change the mindset and lives of many.

Granted a 501 (c) 3, in 1993, The PRC has impacted the lives of over 5250 youth and families. In 2008, Kandee Lewis became the Executive Director, and a Certified Domestic Violence Prevention and Awareness Advocator, specializing in Teen Dating Violence Prevention.

Mission Statement:

PRC’s mission is to teach leadership, character development skills, and financial literacy to promote healthy sustainable relationships, and prevent acts and exposure to violence and high risk behaviors such as Teen Dating and Domestic Violence and Bullying.

Vision Statement

We build “positive results“ communities to encourage youth and families to be proactive in creating a legacy of anti-violence and prevention approaches which, ultimately, empower them in places where they live, work, worship, and educate. The results are youth and families developing leadership and character development skills to make wise choices about their personal safety and safety of others, while building a culture of youth and families who embrace and promote non-violence.

Target Population
The PRC specializes in working with children, youth, Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) age 16 to 24 and adults. We service pregnant & parenting teens, foster care and homeless youth, LGBTQQ youth, at risk and low income families, and the general public.

Achievements

The Positive Results Corporation has been chosen to receive the Johnnie L. Cochran Award from the Los Angeles High School Alumni Association for our work in Youth Violence Prevention. We have also been instrumental in establishing Proclamations and Resolution making in the Cities of Inglewood, Los Angeles and Santa Monica, February Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month, which replicates Senate Resolution 373, a National issue.

In 2011, we created and hosted Stop The Pain, Teen Summits (on Dating Violence and Bully Prevention), the only one of its kind in the country. Since that time we have seen an increase of 585% (165 youth in 2011 and 973 people, 600 youth in 2012) in year two (2012) and 171% additional increase in our 3rd year (over 1650 attendees in 2013). Stop the Pain conducts workshops on abuse, bullying, cyberbully, sex trafficking and violence prevention & awareness, healthy relationships, financial literacy, college preparedness and self esteem for youth, young adults, and adults. We also have a healthy clinic to screen for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes in youth.

PRC is an Approved Service Provider for Youth Leadership for the City of Los Angeles, Youth Source, Work Source & Family Source Center, and service provider for LA Cares.

We are Certified Domestic Violence Advocates, Certified GAP (Gang Alternative Program) Instructors, and trained in Project Fatherhood. We serve on Mayor Aja Brown's Community Policing Task Force, Education Sub Committee, in Compton, CA, on Los Angeles City Attorney, Mike Feuer’s Domestic Violence Round Table, and with New Star Family Justice Center developing Youth Peer Leaders. LA Cares contracted with us in July 2014 to provide prevention workshops, we successfully completed Annenberg Foundation's Alchemy and Alchemy PLUS, placed in the top 3 of UCLA’s Academies of Social Entrepreneurship, and most recently selected by Allstate Foundation to participate in the Purple Purse Campaign.

The PRC became an Approved Service Provider for Youth Leadership for the City of Los Angeles, Youth Source, WorkSource and Family Source Centers, and Los Angeles TeenShop,Inc honored Kandee Lewis with the Woman of Distinction Award for 2014. Most recently Allstate Foundation selected The PRC to participate in the Purple Purse Program.

The PRC was also a Featured Presenter (along with Collaborator, Kelli Dillon) at the Inter-Agency on Child Abuse and Neglect
