Research has demonstrated that when women are economically empowered, entire communities benefit.
Yet, until now, there remains a crucial knowledge gap regarding the most effective interventions that directly advance women’s economic opportunities. To address this gap, YWCA Alaska is making strides by housing the Women's Economic Empowerment Center in Alaska. The Center offers unique courses that build financial management skills and financial self-esteem by emphasizing the psychological component to money management. These courses specifically address financial situations faced by women -- single motherhood or being in a financially abusive relationship -- which sometimes leads to domestic violence. Our goal is to create healthy relationships -- to build career skills and assist women and disadvantaged individuals in finding and acquiring higher paying employment opportunities, and to put a stop to domestic violence.
Our programs provide women with the financial stability and independence to expand the opportunities of individuals to help them move forward in life.
YWCA Alaska is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women while promoting dignity, peace, freedom and justice for all.
The mission of the YWCA, eliminating racism and empowering women, has been the guiding principle for creating programs in health, economic empowerment, youth development, social justice, and women’s leadership. With a community-based Board of Directors, the YWCA Alaska is an autonomous nonprofit organization dedicated to providing mission and participant-driven programming in Alaska.
