It's A Thin Line
It’s a thin line, in our world today, between a lot of things. A thin line between playful and bullying. A thin line between flirting and harassment. A thin line between caring and control. And for many women and children, all across the nation but most certainly in Middle Tennessee, it’s a very thin line between safety and harm at the hands of a man they love turned abuser.
For years, the Weaver Domestic Violence Center (Tennessee's largest shelter) has relied on confidentiality to keep our location a secret and therefore add a layer of protection for the women and children we serve, our volunteers and our staff. Unfortunately, with advances in modern technology and having been in one location for several years, that very basic need of safety is being compromised – evidenced very clearly in the gang situation we faced earlier this year. For a glance into the fear and harsh reality of that situation, please watch the "High Alert" video found on this page.
We must take action to ensure the brave women who flee to our shelter are safe. We must build an un-scalable fence to create that thin line that will separate our shelter from potential harm. We can’t do it alone. We ask you to become a Sentinel of Safety alongside the YWCA as we partner with the Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse campaign to raise the funds to accomplish this necessary feat. We ask you to champion our cause in hopes of helping us reach our goal of $150,000.
Will you accept the charge and become a Sentinel of Safety? Every dollar contributed will make the fence more of a reality. Every gift is another iron bar in the thin line that could mean life or death for the women and children we serve. .
