SAVE A LIFE - Help Put Mangochi Hospital on Solar Power
Organized by: John Parks
Mangochi District Hospital is located in Malawi, a country in Southern Africa. Mangochi is one of 28 Districts (similar to states or provinces) in Malawi, and has the third largest population of any District in the country - approximately 1.2 million. The hospital, run by the Malawi Ministry of Health, is the referral hospital for the entire district and all 40 health centers spread across 6,200 square kilometers. Electricity is available to about 10% of Malawi's population. Places do that have electricity often experience power-cuts.
Electricity is important for a hospital to function effectively. Without electricity lights for life-saving surgery do not work. Without electricity the oxygen-concentrators (machines that help breathing problems, like babys with pneumonia) do not work.
The Mangochi Hospital suffers power cuts on a regular basis. Please watch the video with interviews of hospital staff for more details.
Mangochi city is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Malawi, and has A LOT of sunshine. Sky Solar, a company in Malawi, has carried out projects of this size before and has the technical expertise to set this up - if it is funded.
Help save a life by contributing to put Mangochi District Hospital on Solar Power.
